Introducing the “Fish First Forever” Biotope Challenge—a brand-new live spectator feature coming to the 2026 Canadian Aquatic Expo!

Competitors will build species-specific aquariums on site, researching and recreating the habitat, environment and natural character of where their selected fish truly comes from. The chosen fish species will then be introduced into the completed aquarium, bringing each carefully recreated habitat to life.

This challenge goes far beyond creating a beautiful aquarium—our judges will be looking for authenticity, creativity and how successfully each competitor creates a suitable home and tells the story of their species.

Featuring two of Canada’s most influential aquatic mentors, Joey DIY and Chris “The Mad Aquarist” Biggs, plus live builds, expert judging and a $900 prize pool!
